Uncertain Future

*this post is going to be emotional*

About a month ago at an event, Ice gave an interview that aired on TV Pool, watch the TV Pool Interview Here. I knew there was something up, but just didn’t really want to believe that something could be wrong. Ice looked incredibly uncomfortable when he was asked about his work now and what he’s doing right now. He revealed for the first time that all he’s really doing now is resting and that he isn’t working on songs and that theres no talks about songs at all.

Then about a week ago P’Lek (one of the head bosses of Grammy) gave an interview about a various number of things, one of them being artists who’s contracts are ending. P’Lek said the following..

Continued by asking about a rumor that the popular singer Ice Sarunyu Winaipanit might not sign to continue his contract with Grammy again after his contract is soon to be up. P’Lek says that Grammy has a section which deals with the contracts and as far as she knows, they are talking with Ice right now.

“We see it as something which is normal that can happen, many of the singers have done the same kind of work for a period of time. They might want to go out and try something new. Whether or not it will effect the work that Ice is doing internationally, it probably won’t because there are many other singers who have talent.

This kind of work, we see it as an art, your heart has to be in it. This is not something that we can force. If at this time Ice wants to take a rest from singing and wants to do other things then we don’t have a problem with it. Because normally when artists leave our label, when we do have something and we invite them then we usually can still work together.”

Not only Ice, but theres also rumors that Marsha is another one who might not continue her contract. About this P’Lek is confirming that this is not the truth because the label is currently working on a new album for her

Then on the 19th 9 Entertain News caught up with Ice at one of his mini concerts at a restaurant/pub called Butter Butter to ask him with the news, the results is here in a subtitled video

****
With all of that being said, I’m still in shock and am speechless right now. When I read the interview by P’Lek I knew the rumors had to be true. P’Lek has always been a straightforward person, never one to beat around the bush. What I was not particularly fond of were her comments about how there are other talented artists who could essentially take Ice’s place internationally if he decided not to continue on with Grammy. And the way she quickly denied that Marsha was going to end her contract with Grammy, it only confirmed my suspicions that chances of Ice signing with Grammy could be fading.

Then this new interview comes out with 9 Entertain and seeing Ice talk about the whole thing, I can see how uncomfortable he is. He’s laughing at some points and smiling, but its really all a show. The way he stutters with his answers and the long pauses, even the look on his face I can see he is uncomfortable.

I don’t know all of this is kind of a shock and unexpected to me. I know this last half of the year Ice hasn’t really been working as much as he use to and I just wanted to believe that he was finally taking a break after working so long and so hard without one. I never really thought that the reason could be that his contract was ending and that he might be making a very crucial decision about his future. Too be honest, I’ve only really been attached to one singer for most of my life and there was surly no way that singer was ever going to go anywhere. So I never had to worry about what ifs or even had to deal with the idea of my favorite singer disappearing from the music world. But for the past 5 or 6 years I’ve had two attachments and that second attachment is Ice.

I’ve put so much energy so much time so much everything into this love and admiration for Ice and it completely kills me to think that he could possibly be changing labels. Maybe its an overreaction, but the news is still new and I need time to let it sink in if it ever does. I would probably literally cry if Ice moved to RS, I could probably handle it if he went to Sony, but I’ve always been a Grammy girl, always.

Grammy is Ice’s first home in the entertainment world, both on the tv screen and in the music world. They gave him opportunities that other labels wouldn’t, but they didn’t always play nice with him. After winning the first reality singing competition show and having a hit song on the following album, it took almost 2 years before he was able to release a full album on his own. 2 freaking years. And the only reason he got to release it then was because of the success of his role in the drama Duay Rang Hang Ruk as the evil crazy little brother. That was pretty unfair if you ask me, look at other singers who come out of singing competitions even the ones that haven’t won have released albums in less than 6 months! And while others have been endlessly promoted and given the opportunity to have multiple solo concerts within their short time in the industry, it took 6 years for the powers that be to see that Ice is a true entertainer and was given the chance to have his much deserved solo concert. I’ve been bitter for him as a fan on many occasions and just seeing the words that they are saying well maybe he’s not interested in singing right now or that there are other artists who could essentially replace him makes me no less bitter than I ever was before. Theres a reason why 4 years later Kon Jai Ngaai is still a hit song, not only because of its catchy tune but because of the singer. He makes the song. Have you ever heard any other singer sing it and have it be as fun and upbeat as the way Ice sings it? I mean other than Bird (who makes every song he sings better) no other singer can sing this song correctly, whether in Thai or any of the other gazillion languages that it has been translated to. Regardless of what Grammy says, I hope that Ice will show grace in how he answers questions in regards to this and continue to respect Grammy even if Grammy doesn’t always show their respect for him.

Man, I don’t even know. I hope that this all turns out to be a stupid dumb promotional ploy to garner attention or something. I hate things like that, but honestly I hope hope hope that this is what it is. Maybe making a move will be better for him maybe staying will be a horrible decision, but I just don’t like the uncertainty of it.

Flashing his smile and winning the hearts of girls every where to the point where he is nicknamed the Prince of Smiles

Ice Sarunyu Winaipanit, a singer with Grammy, has asked to put down the microphone to turn around and cross over to a different country to enter into the acting world by playing in a Chinese drama. In the teenage drama called “Yes – Sir” which has plans to air in two countries, Malaysia and Taiwan. In this drama Ice will co-star with a famous Malaysian singer name Rynn Lim, which Ice says

“I am happy and very honored to have the opportunity to play in a Chinese drama just once. I just finished taping it not long ago, we taped it in Penang, it was a lot of fun.Other than being able to exchange cultures, languages, and acting, it is also the first time I was able to act in a Chinese drama. It was a lot of fun. It takes place in a high school and my character just moved to Penang from Europe who is the nephew of the owner of the school and is in the 12th grade. He is someone who is part of the new generation, rich, confident. The character is someone who is a little bit of a rebel and thinks that hes better than everybody. He secretly falls in love with the leading actress, so a problem arises because he will play pranks on the leading actor. However, in the end he realizes what he did wrong and becomes a good person. This role was a bit difficult, but when I read the role I was able to understand it and why it is that way.”

“Taping the drama was fun, it was the first time I played in an international drama and taped it in an international location. We taped it in an all around school in Penang. When we were taping, there were some students who are Thai and they came to give their support and played as extras as well. For the most part we taped in front of the flag pole under the hot sun. Everday was like 4 to 5 hours, to the point where the sun burned me. By the time we finished taping I got a lot darker. There is also a scene where I have to kiss the leading lady on the lips, it was really hard. It was embarrassing because there was a lot of people watching, the director said twice but in realitywe taped  it about 30 times. You can say that we kissed so many times that we weren’t embarrassed anymore.”

“The hardest part in taping was the language, that was the biggest problem. For the most part everyone is speaking Chinese, but I have to speak English mixed with Chinese. So that was really hard, and another thing was that I haven’t played in a drama in a lot time so sometimes I’ll get confused about camera angles. As far as acting in this role, I think it was a really good experience, I was very honored that the company HALO MUSIC Malaysia pick me to go play in this drama. I was lucky to be with a good team and nice actors. It was very relaxed and friendly. Whenever I was unable to say the Chinese lines, everyone waited patiently. And not only was I able to act in the drama but I had the opportunity to sing the OST for this drama and it is in Chinese.

I believe it is suppose to be on air around November in Malaysia, and then in Taiwan. As for Thailand I think that there is a chance we’ll get to see it soon

Another First Stage Clip

August 23, 2009 at 12:00 am | In News | 1 Comment

Week 17 of First Stage Show – starting to cut down the contestants to find the Champ of the Year…

so how the show works, they got all 16 to sing 2 songs a slow and a fast song and they were scored by the judges and in this first week they automatically cut 7 of the 16.

In this first episode they sat the 16 contestants down to talk a little bit of themselves and where they came from before showing clips of their 2 song performances before the judges. Then they came out and sang the group song and then they announced the 9 contestants who were moving onto the next round, in which they will be divided up into 3 groups of 3 to perform in the following weeks.

Ice tells that he first competed in Close Up MC Search (grammy) and won for the guys side (see images here). Then they ask him which one is harder, being an MC or singing. Ice says that both are equally as hard, but he thinks that if you put your mind to it and try to do your best, even if its hard, as long as your having fun, then it will all be ok. They then ask him who’s songs does he like to sing and Ice says that he likes to sing a lot of different songs but he likes P’J Jetrin because he has both slow and fast songs to listen and sing along to.

Marie Claire Interview October 2008

I was in the middle of uploading some more articles at Ice’s board and thought I would post this one here. Mostly because I really like Ice’s picture, but the interview is short and sweet… from October 2008

MAN AT HIS BEST
Ice Sarunyu Winaipanit has had 2 solo albums, 1 special album called Together (Peck Aof Ice) and has taken part in singing some pretty songs like in Sleepless Society, and has gone international by releasing an album in Japan. He is entering into his 5th year in the industry and we will be able to hear his 3rd album which he says “brings together the best songs in his life” along with opening his album in the “land of sushi” (Japan) and also being a part of one of the biggest music festivals in Korea and being on the same stage as TQVX

MC: Every one of your albums has had a signature dance move that everyone, even those who are not your fans, will remember and dance for years. In this new album, what moves does the “prince of dance” have for us?

ICE: For this album I got to be a co-producer and was involved in many aspects of making the album. Not only the singing but also choosing the songs. I also wrote the song Tisade and also helped choreograph the moves with Kru Au for the song I.See.U. Its an upbeat song with a fun tempo to open up the album. Theres a move that goes along with the line I See You as well. As for the MV, we’re still following the concept that most people will remember me for, and that is to have a sexy leading lady. After searching for a long time, we decided on Peak Patcharasee.

MC: What do you think has made you successful?
ICE: I wasn’t born into a family that had artists in the blood. Before entering into the entertainment business I never learned how to act before. But there is one thing I believe in and that is having Self Respect. Like if you read the book “Moo Bin Dai” (Pigs Can Fly), it is like a kids book, but it tells a very important lesson. It compares the life of a normal pig and that of one that can fly. When he was a baby pig, the normal pig had wings on his back and dreamed of being able to fly, but when he couldn’t follow his dreams, his wings began to fall off. And then one day he met the angel pig and he realized that this angel pig with wings was once a normal pig. But he was able to fly because he always practiced and tried to fly. When I finished reading it, it made me thing and realize that no one is able to do anything since they were born. If you want to fly and reach success then you have to start with yourself first.

MC: If you could sing one song for Marie Claire, what song would it be?

ICE: A girl like Marie Claire is a successful, smart, is worldly, and confident. I would sing Beautiful by Christina Aguliera, I think that is the most fitting… “You are beautiful, no matter what they say”… no matter how people look at you, if you have confidence in yourself, you will always be a beautiful woman.
